Bhutan
Bhutan is a landlocked country in South Asia located at the eastern end of the Himalayas. Bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India, it is a Himalayan kingdom where a traditional Buddhist culture embraces modern development. Bhutan is full of surprises: rice is red and chillies are not considered seasons but the main ingredient! Monasteries are part of the mainstream, and giant protective penises are painted beside the entrance to many houses.
The happiness of the people of Bhutan is considered more important than Gross National product and by law, at least 60% of the country must remain in forestry, preserved for future generations. Botanical riches and unique mammals and birds are protected in many national parks, and a mountain trek is one of the best ways to experience the area.
The amazing Himalayan landscape of Bhutan is just one reason to visit. From snowcapped peaks, shadowy gorges, primeval forests, majestic monasteries, unique architecture, Buddhist culture and stunning flora and fauna, there is so much to see here.
