It twists, turns, climbs and dives across rough desert and high plateau topography. The highlight of Highway 12 is the ridge of Hell’s Backbone – an exposed piece of highway dropping hundreds of feet on either side. Highway 12 traces the northern edge of the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument, a 1.9 million acre spectacle of multi-hued cliffs and terraces, with distances that defy human perspective. Highway 12 is sure to please!!

At Red Canyon, we’ll load up the bikes and shuttle for about an hour down to Mt. Carmel Junction where we’ll stop for lunch. DAY 15

Zion NP: Optional hiking or rest day

      Hiking: Optional

After a few days of riding, we’ll have a rest day. Alternatively if you wish to explore Zion National Park on foot, we suggest an early start to beat the crowds. There are lots of different options depending on how you’re feeling. For those interested, hiking poles and water shoes are available to hike the Narrows along the Virgin River. Other classic hikes in Zion include Angel’s Landing, Observation Point and Emerald Pools which are all worth the effort in this beautiful park. Or take a day off to stroll through Springdale and visit the shops.

      Meals: Breakfast

      DAY 16

      Springdale to North Rim

Cycling: 51 km, 364 climbing metres

We hope you had some rest yesterday and are ready for your last ride of the tour. First we’ll transfer back up along the soaring red cliffs of Zion National Park to Mount Carmel Junction. Then it’s another two hours in the bus to the Kaibab Plateau. From here we’re back on our bikes for a fantastic 51 km ride along a country road lined with alpine meadows. With relatively low traffic and no sharp corners, you can just cruise and enjoy the scenery. No better way to finish than at one of the most dramatic geological formations in the world! Later this afternoon you may like to stroll the North Rim to Bright Angel Point before our final farewell dinner where we can reflect on a tour of great riding and scenery!

North Rim to Las Vegas (departure)

      Hiking: 5 km

Your guides can take you out for a short, early morning hike on one of the lesser frequented trails in the Grand Canyon – the North Kaibab Trail. If this trail is followed to the South Rim trail, it takes hikers through every ecosystem found between Canada and Mexico! But we won’t have time for a longer distance today, as we are packing up and heading back to Vegas. You’ll have a chance to shower before we hit the road for our 5 hour journey, arriving in Las Vegas around 5-6pm. We will bid each other farewell after a great two weeks of cycling and exploring.
