Cycle through the heart of Sardinia on our lifestyle and active gourmet biking tour where you’ll sample the local cuisine and learn about regional traditions. You may also discover what contributes to Sardinia having so many centenarian inhabitants.

After cycling up an appetite, take cooking classes offered by renowned chefs of the island who bring the fresh Mediterranean flavours out of traditional delights. You will utilise locally grown produce to learn how to cook classic Sardinian dishes, such as Malloreddus, Culurgiones and Fregola. Savour the intense tastes of local olive oil and let’s not hold back on a wine and cheese tasting session.

While cycling through fantastic scenery, you’ll see the majestic Montiferru mountain range and the beautiful undulating region called Marmilla. Visit Punic-Roman ruins and of course take time out to relax and swim in the sea.

The cycling is not difficult – mainly downhill, flat or undulating terrain. You are supported by an experienced guide and backup vehicle throughout the tour.

Welcome to Alghero

No cycling

After transferring you from Alghero Airport to your hotel, we'll fit you to your bikes. This Sardinian town of Alghero is lively, attractive and popular with visitors, especially in summer. It is famous because it has been dominated by Catalans so the Catalan language is often spoken here. The Mura Catalane (Catalan walls) with its towers, still surround the old town centre on the seaward side. You may like to take a walk along them before stopping at one of the cafes or bars for a drink at sunset. At tonight's welcome gourmet dinner you will sample the special Catalan cuisine of the area.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Capo Caccia & Vermentino wine area

Cycling: 54 km (flat & rolling)

From the attractive city of Alghero you’ll ride north to the Vermentino wine region, called Nurra. If there's time you may like to visit Capo Caccia where the calcareous rocks are spattered with caves and ravines that hide a mysterious world atop the turquoise sea. The areas of Punta di Giglio and Capo Caccia both have an underwater cave paradise. The Grotta di Nettuno, accessed by sea or by descending 110m via the many steps of the Escala dei Cabriol, is home to caverns with stalactites and stalagmites. After olive oil and wine tasting at the Leda d’Ittiri winery at Fertilia we return to Alghero in the van in time for cooking classes at Bastianina House. We stay another night in Alghero.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Bosa & Santu Lussurgiu

Cycling: 52 km (rolling & hilly)

On our bikes we leave Alghero and cycle for about 40km over undulating terrain along the coast to Bosa. Here you can admire the massive complex of the Castello dei Malaspina. Then continue along country roads passing through small villages and up to the Montiferru Massive, where you’ll see the famous Siete Fuentes water sources of San Leonardo. Soon after you will arrive in Santu Lussurgiu. Take a walk around the village, which is centred around the small rustic church of Santa Croce. The ancient stone houses are built in a concentric configuration along winding, steep and narrow cobbled lanes which you may like to explore!. Now its time for your second cooking class where the chef will introduce you to the preparation of Sardinian specialties such as ravioli Culurgiones.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Oristano & Sinis Peninsula

Cycling: 67 km (rolling & hilly)

Today we ride along country roads through small villages such as Narbolia or Bonarcado. Soon we will arrive at the Campidano flat in Riola Sardo for a memorable olive oil tasting. Then its straight to the Sinis Penisnula where there are plenty of lagoons and wetlands. Depending on the season, you may see wonderful pink flamingos. Also you can visit the ruins of the Punic-Roman port city of “Tharros” from where there is a breathtaking view. Finally we arrive in Oristano, a town of horsemen and famous for its SARTIGLIA (a medieval horse race).

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Oristano to Gesturi

Cycling: 69 km (flat & rolling)

As we cycle inland from Oristano through small villages and along country roads, we can enjoy the landscape of the vast flatlands as we head towards the central hilly regions of Sardinia. See murals of the small towns, each with their own prehistoric Nuragic fortified towers. Some towers with villages while others are remnant tombs of the giants.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Gesturi loop ride via Giara Plateau

Cycling: 54 km (flat)

Again we head inland, this time around the Giara Plateau, a 600m high plain where a lot of little, wild black horses called GIARINI live. Enjoy a local Wine Tasting at the Cantina Olianas in a neighboring town called Gergei before descending to Barumini. Here we visit the most famous and most intact of all the prehistoric stone fortresses in all of Sardinia. You may like to take a guided tour and walk inside the Unesco World Heritage complex of Su Nuraxi. We will have a light lunch in Barumini before visiting the Museum. Tonight is our farewell dinner.
