Full Itinerary

Arrival in Passau (sail at 6pm)

No cycling

Passau sits on the edge of Germany near the Austrian border where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet. This picturesque town is more than 2000 years old and has many interesting sites. Take time to stroll through the historic centre, with its baroque architecture constructed by the city's Prince Bishops. Board your 'floating hotel' in Passau at 4.30 pm and relax with a welcome cocktail and dinner as we start cruising downstream at 6 pm.

Meals: Dinner

'The Great Loop' / Engelhartszell to Aschach

Cycling: approx. 42 km

Today begins with a ride through the classic scenery of 'Great Loop' Donauschlinge - one of the most beautiful sections of the Danube. Along the way you will encounter tiny villages and cozy cider taverns. In Austria's only Trappist monastery at Engelhartszell, you can taste their delicious liquor and cheeses. The famous 'Schlogener View' offers a wonderful panorama of the surrounding Austrian countryside. Finish the day's cycling at the charming market of Aschach where your boat will be waiting.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Aschach to Bratislava

Cycling: approx. 43 km

We cycle along the former 'Iron Curtain' and through Austria's 'green belt' to the imposing 18th century Imperial Palace of Hof, with its lavish interior and beautifully landscaped Baroque gardens. Then we follow the bike path to Slovakia's capital city, Bratislava, located at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. In the evening, you may choose to explore this city's hidden alleys and imposing architecture ranging from medieval times to the 21st century.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Bratislava to Budapest

Cycling: approx. 54 km (or rest day)

Sit on the deck this morning for panoramic views of the Danube's gorgeous landscape. The entrance to Budapest, Hungary's capital, is stunning as you'll pass many of the city's great buildings which line both sides of the river. You will also see Margaret Island, in the middle of the Danube in Central Budapest, ideal for exploring by bike. You may choose to cycle on a round trip to the charming town of Szentendre, with its Mediterranean atmosphere and lively art scene. Tonight, an optional show with music and dance will reveal Hungary's culture.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Budapest to Esztergom (via the 'Danube Bend')

Cycling: approx. 43 km

The Danube bend (also called the Hungarian Wachau), along with the wooded hills of Pilis, Visegrad and Borzsony is one of the prettiest parts of this journey. Within the Danube lies the idylic isle of Szentendre. Here you cycle via the baroque village of Vac (influenced by the architects of Austrian empress Maria Theresa) to the bishop town of Esztergom with its gorgeous basilica, Hungary's largest Catholic Church which overlooks the town.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Cycling: none

See Vienna's iconic attractions on a city tour by bike or bus (optional) — the Hofburg Palace, St Stephen's Cathedral, and the Ringstrasse circling the inner city. On the Ringstrasse see the State Opera House, Burgtheater (Court Theatre) and Town Hall. There's also the colourful and unconventional Hundertwasserhaus, and the ferris wheel at the Wurstelprater amusement park. Then, relax at one of the many coffee bars. The day could end impressively with a classical concert at one of Vienna's most famous palaces.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Vienna to Krems to Melk (The 'Wachau' Region)

Cycling: approx. 37 km

Your last biking day may just be a highlight as you pass quaint towns, apricot orchards, vineyards, castles and monasteries. A sizeable ruin looms above the small Baroque town of Durnstein, while the blue tower of the monastery is a landmark of the Wachau. Take a break at one of the many comfy wine taverns or walk your bike through the narrow alleys of Durnstein where King Richard the Lionheart was an involuntary guest in medieval times. Finally, you'll reach Melk, famed for its Benedictine monastery. Tonight is the gala farewell dinner and folklore show.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
