Join our Tasmania Cycling Tour for one of Australia’s greatest coastal journeys: nearly 300 km of Tasmania’s temperate natural paradise.
Over the course of a week you will admire white sandy beaches, azure waters, a stunning national park, quaint colonial villages and the vibrant capital, Hobart. You will also visit the Tasman Peninsula, with the option of seeing Port Arthur, a World Heritage Area.
You will enjoy a moderate cycling challenge, with fresh air and uncrowded roads. You will also have some close encounters with unique Australian wildlife, and learn about Australia’s colonial history.
The tour is fully serviced, with a back-up vehicle available if you need a break. You will stay in great 2 – 3 star accommodation with breakfasts and lunches provided. Tasmania has excellent local wines and cuisine to enjoy along the way — you will find yourself spoiled for choice.
FITNESS AND PREPARATION

GRADE 3 – MODERATE TOURS
Moderate to Challenging tours are designed for the more experienced participants who wish to push themselves and experience new highs of achievement. Routes may include longer climbs and will require more technical skills.

FITNESS REQUIRED
A good level of fitness is required and you are advised to exercise three or four times a week during the build up to the tour.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Arrival Day: Launceston to St Helens – Cycling: Optional, up to 25 km
We will pick up from your hotel / airport and take you to the fishing capital of the East coast, the beautiful town of St. Helens. You may wish to bike down a flat path to the famous Bay of Fires (25 km return). The Bay is known for its white beaches, vivid blue seas and orange granite.
DAY 2 – St. Helens to Bicheno – Cycling: 60–75 km
We will cycle south down the beautiful east coast, past spectacular beaches. You could choose to go via the inland town of St Marys, with a spectacular downhill ride along the mountainous Elephant Pass (over Mt Elephant). Our destination: the small coastal tourist town of Bicheno.

DAY 3 – Bicheno to Swansea via Freycinet National Park – Cycling: approx. 51 km
After the first 30 km of cycling, we will drive you to the Friendly Beaches Lookout, with views over the Freycinet National Park, Tasmania’s first national park. After lunch, we will climb a hill around the wildlife-rich Moulting Lagoon wetland. Your destination: the seaside resort of Swansea.

DAY 4 – Swansea to Eaglehawk Neck via Richmond – Cycling: approx. 62 km
We will cycle south on the beautiful coast road, and have lunch in the scenic coastal town of Orford at a lovely spring beach, followed by a stopover in Richmond. We will stay overnight in Eaglehawk Neck, set on a narrow strip of land connecting mainland Tasmania with the Tasman Peninsula.

DAY 5 – Eaglehawk Neck: Rest Day – Cycling: Optional, up to 100 km

DAY 6 – Eaglehawk Neck to Hobart – Cycling: approx. 38 km
We will cycle off the peninsula back to mainland Tasmania. You may choose to join the optional drive up Mt Wellington (1270 m), with views over all of southern Tasmania.

DAY 7 – Departure Day: Hobart
Today is a free day to explore Tasmania’s cosmopolitan capital. Airport transfers are available until noon. Wherever your next journey takes you, you will leave Tasmania with wonderful memories.
