Located on New Zealand’s, South Island’s east coast with mountains to the west, Marlborough is one of the country’s sunniest and driest regions. The sunny yet cool climate conditions benefits the grapes by a long, slow, flavour-intensifying ripening period.
This self-guided tour begins with a rail trip along the ruggedly beautiful coastline of the surging Pacific Ocean and the steeply rising Kaikoura Ranges. Spend the first night in Kaikoura, world famous for its abundant sea life including Whales, dolphins and seals. Then rejoin the train again to Marlborough – a beautiful rural region, with quiet roads ideal for relaxed cycling. You’ll have ample time to explore the wineries, food and art destinations by bike. In the evening you will be spoiled for choice with superb local dinner venues.

The cycling is easy and relaxed. Expect to cycle between 15 and 30 km each day during days 3, 4 and 5. If you’re after a peaceful holiday with a light introductory focus on cycling then this is a great option. The route ridden is entirely at your own pace. During the day your luggage will be transferred to your next location and will be waiting for you when you arrive later in the day. The wineries you visit will be happy to deliver any bottles you purchase to your accommodation for the evening.
