The tour starts close to Faro, the main airport servicing the Algarve. The city is only a 200km drive from Seville (Spain). During the tour, you will follow the stunning Algarve coastline in the South right up to the fascinating capital, Lisbon, you will stay in luxurious accommodation and will sample great local cuisine. You will also visit opulent modern resort towns, a national park, and charming cobblestoned villages steeped in Moorish and maritime history. We guarantee that this will be an unforgettable tour, full of rich experiences and adventures.

This lifestyle tour is designed to make your travel as convenient as possible. The tour price includes the bike hire, green fees and club hire. The cycling on this trip is leisurely, as you decide what distance is right for you. Our guides will offer individualized riding options between 35km and 80-110km on each of the 5 cycling days. We also offer the choice of traditional road or touring bikes and the new generation e-bikes where you will be assisted by an electric engine.

FITNESS AND PREPARATION

GRADE 2 – MILD TOURS

Moderate tours imply that you have an interest and possibly some experience in the activities. The chosen routes will require a reasonable level of fitness and experience on different terrains.

FITNESS REQUIRED

An average level of fitness is required, and you will need to do some form of exercise two or three times a week during the build up to this tour.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Arrival Day: Faro — Monte Rei Golf & Country Club – No cycling or golf

You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. You can build your bike and meet fellow travelers before our group meeting. Dinner will be Monte Rei, a relatively remote region in the Eastern corner of the Algarve region.

DAY 2 – Monte Rei Golf and Country Club Cycling – 20 – 50 km (optional)

You may choose to play the golf course in Monte Rei or simply explore the area in the afternoon.

DAY 3 – Monte Rei – Marina Vilamoura Cycling: 35 – 85 km

We ride from Monte Rei to the nearby town of Tavira and the fishing port of Fuseta (36 km). We head to Faro (57 km) for our lunch break, before we ride into the golf resort area of Vale do Lobo. Finally, we arrive at the 5 star Tivoli Victoria golf hotel where we will stay for the next two nights.

DAY 4 – Vilamoura – Oceanico Golf Club (Old Course) Cycling: 20 – 50 km (optional)

You can explore one of the original golf courses in the area or choose from several marine activities on the resort town. Golfers will have the unforgettable experience of the Oceanico Old Course in the heart of Vilamoura, one of the most renowned golf regions in the world.

DAY 5 – Marina Vilamoura – Lagos Cycling: 35 – 78 km

We leave Vilamoura for the town of Albufeira (14 km). Lunch will be in Carvoeiro (40 km) before we cross the Arade River into the port and ship-building centre of Portimão (54 km).

DAY 6 Lagos – Herdade Cycling – 35 – 105 km

We are heading out on a quiet ride through Portugal’s South-Central Alentejo region, the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, Aljezur (30 km) and the coastal town of Vila Nova de Milfontes.

DAY 7 – Herdade – Tróia / Palmela – Cycling: 35 – 117 km

We continue our bike ride on the coastal road northwards. Lunch will be in the town of Sines. We will pass the Tróia Peninsula and arrive at the Pestana Tróia eco resort.

DAY 8 – Tróia Golf Club (No cycling)

The Tróia Golf Championship Course is regarded as one of the most fascinating and difficult golf courses in Portugal. Over the years, Tróia Golf has hosted numerous tournaments and has been ranked in the Top 100 golf courses in continental Europe by Golf World UK.

DAY 9 – Tróia / Setúbal – Caparica (Lisbon) – Cycling: 35 – 85 km

We ride past the golf course to the Tróia Marina for a short ferry ride across to the busy port town of Setúbal. We pass through the Arrábida National Park and into the country’s capital, Lisbon (52 km), and end the day with a pleasant ride along Costa de Caparica.

DAY 10 – Golf Excursion: Praia d’el Rey – No cycling

Praia d’el Rey is arguably one of the most stunning golf courses in Europe, set among extensive pine forests and with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands.

DAY 11 – Royal Óbidos Spa and Golf Resort – No cycling

The course represents a true test of golf for players of all levels. The clubhouse offers a restaurant with a variety of menus available, two bars, lounge, pro-shop, and bags storage area.

DAY 12 Departure: Caparicia (Lisbon) or Praia d’el Rey – No cycling

After breakfast you will be transferred to Lisbon Airport. Alternatively, if you wish to stay in the city, you can talk to our office staff about hotel bookings.
